STOP the removal of Hinton weir footbridge

The Issue

Mudford PC wish to remove a jointly funded footbridge without a full structural survey or repairs made. This bridge is a safe link between Hinton and Mudford without walking on the A359.

The footpath has been there as long as the church and the watermill

The weir cannot be surveyed or the weir maintained without the bridge. It also serves to keep the river clear of trash to prevent flooding

The bridge is a community bridge funded by the parish council, landowners, volunteers and interested groups.

The weir was built in 1801 by William Smith the geologist who was working on the Somerset Coal Canel at the time. The bridge was built locally in 2020.
