The Issue

I am starting this petition to raise serious concerns about the proposed relocation of bus stops directly outside residential homes on Ramsey Drive, Arnold (NG5 6QQ).

This change would directly affect my family, including my young children, as well as many other local residents.

Why this matters
The proposed bus stop location is on a bend and hill, where visibility is already limited. This creates real safety risks for drivers, pedestrians, and residents trying to access their driveways.

Reversing out of driveways would become significantly more dangerous due to poor visibility, parked cars along the road, and frequent bus movements stopping directly outside homes.

There is also a concern that placing bus stops opposite each other would narrow the road and create unnecessary congestion.

Impact on families and residents
If this proposal goes ahead, buses and passengers will be waiting directly outside people’s homes every day.

This will lead to:

A major loss of privacy, with clear views into homes and gardens
Increased noise early in the morning and late at night
More foot traffic directly outside residential properties
Disturbance to children and families trying to enjoy their homes peacefully

Why the current location works
The existing bus stops have been in place for around 60 years and already work safely and effectively.

They:

Do not block driveways
Are located on a straight, flat section of road
Provide good visibility for drivers and pedestrians
Have space for passengers, including wheelchairs and pushchairs
Are not directly outside anyone’s home
There is no safety issue with the current arrangement that justifies moving them into a more dangerous and disruptive position.

What we are asking for

We are asking the council to:

Stop the proposed relocation immediately
Keep the bus stops in their current safe and established positions
Consider improvements (such as accessibility upgrades) without moving them outside residential homes

Our goal is to ensure a safe, peaceful living environment for all residents while still accommodating public transportation needs. By working together, we can find a solution that respects our neighborhood's safety and integrity. Please sign this petition to voice your support for a safer alternative that considers the well-being of our families and community.
