Today, a NSW court heard exactly why Micheal Guider should not be released from prison. They are deciding if the man who killed Samantha Knight, the man who abused me and so many others, should remain in prison for another year:
'Guider 'now firmly denies he “had anything to do” with the young girl’s death, “despite all of the evidence to the contrary” and his guilty plea more than 17 years ago. The judge described the change as “a significant backward step” and “concerning indeed”.'
Tess Knight, her brother Michael (Samantha's uncle) and another of Guider's childhood victims read out victim impact statements today. They were all so powerful. This comment from Michael Knight is what Knights Law is all about:
“She (Samantha) had a lot of life ahead of her … she just didn’t get a chance.”
The uncle pleaded for Guider to reveal where the nine-year-old’s remains are.
“Samantha Knight should be resting in consecrated ground. This can never be forgiven,” Mr Knight said.
Guider has shown no remorse for what he did. Now he claims to not be responsible for Samantha's murder, and he refuses to give Tess and her family any sort of closure by refusing to say where her remains were left.
I am grateful to the NSW Attorney General for his commitment to doing what he can to ensure Guider stays behind bars, but we need him to do more. We need to send a message to these men who ruin families, and rob them of the chance to say goodbye. We need Kights Law.
