Black bears in Florida were protected under state law since 1974 due to extensive hunting and habitat loss. With great efforts, the population significantly bounced back from just 300 to around 4,000 today. In 2015, a controversial bear hunt was approved and 304 bears were killed in just two days, shocking many Floridians and causing international outcry. Again, there is a move to reinstate black bear hunting in Florida, which endangers these magnificent creatures and threatens to undo decades of conservation work. We as responsible citizens must oppose this proposal. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission should not condone nor facilitate such activities that undermine wildlife population recovery. Let's use our collective voices to oppose this reinstatement and demand the protection of our black bear population. We insist that humane and scientifically-supported management strategies be implemented, rather than resorting to hunting. Sign this petition to say no to black bear hunting.
