Stop the Regulatory Bullying: End the Professional "Shakedown" of BC Small Businesses

The Issue

In British Columbia, government-authorized regulators are no longer protecting the public—they are bullying the very professionals they are supposed to serve. We are seeing a dangerous trend of 'Vocabulary Policing' and massive, life-altering fines ($62,000+) issued over minor terminology disputes that have nothing to do with public safety.

The "Bully" System:

Whether you are a building designer, a health professional, or a technician, you are at risk. These government-backed organizations act as judge, jury, and executioner. They use your own fees to fund lawyers who then attack your livelihood over technicalities and bylaws that contradict common sense.

We have reached a breaking point where:

The 'Catch-22' is King: One government branch requires a service, but the regulator fines you for using the service’s name.
Fear is the Strategy: Professionals are paralyzed and afraid to speak up for fear of being the next target of a 'Vocabulary Audit.'
The Cost is Ours: These legal battles and massive fines drive up the cost of living and doing business for every citizen in BC."

We have to take Action!

We demand that the Minister of Housing and the Office of the Superintendent of Professional Governance (OSPG) intervene. We call for a Directive of Common Sense:

Regulators must be prohibited from issuing fines that exceed a person’s ability to pay for non-safety violations.
Bylaws must align with the BC Building Code and other government standards.
An independent 'Fairness Auditor' must be established to protect small businesses from regulatory overreach.
