Stop The Reek in Stoney Creek

Stop The Reek in Stoney Creek
The Issue
- The City of Hamilton approved Official Plan Amendments and Zoning Bylaw Amendments to allow new residential housing next to the GFL dump (formerly known as the "Taro Dump");
- Then the Ministry of Environment approved the GFL dump to expand in height and width;
- And during construction of the dump expansion, the reek (stink, odour, smell, and air toxicity) have forced local residents indoors, closing their windows, cancelling outdoor walks, stop using their backyards, and not allowing kids to play outside;
- And the smell has caused headaches, nausea, and poor quality of life;
- Where the City of Hamilton continues to collect revenue in tipping fees from the GFL dump;
- Where the City of Hamilton receives revenue in allowing GFL to discharge the leachate into the sewer system;
- And where the Hamilton sewage treatment plant has not been designed to treat leachate from the GFL dump, and thus, the leachate goes directly into Lake Ontario
- We demand that the City of Hamilton END the dumping of leachate into the City's sewer system;
- We demand the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, END the Certificate of Approval for the GFL dump, due to violations;
- We demand the City of Hamilton and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change work together to Stop The Reek in Stoney Creek;
- We demand Hamilton Councillor Brad Clark, who acted as a Consultant in proposing the GFL dump's expansion, to sign this position and publicly lead the closure of the dump!
