The Issue

Our school of Penpont Primary is a wonderful community school where the teaching staff work tirelessly to give our children the best education possible. However, the Education Department's recent decision to reduce our school from a three-classroom school to just two classrooms is deeply concerning. This change will result in the loss of one of our valued teachers, and we will be left with only one full-time Learning Assistant.

This decision is not just about the loss of resources; it will directly impact the quality of education our children receive. Currently, 46% of our pupils at Penpont Primary require extra support. Reducing the number of teachers and classrooms will only add to the stress on our staff and, more importantly, on our children. The individualised attention and tailored educational support that our children need will be compromised.

the school would sit at maximum capacity, with two multi-composite classes to the maximum with 25 pupils in  each, we would be only 1 student away from keeping our third classroom

In rural communities like ours in Penpont, the school is not just a place of learning but a pillar of our community. It plays a crucial role in the development and well-being of our children. Reducing its capacity will have far-reaching consequences for the community at large. The quality of education should not be compromised for budgetary reasons, especially when nearly half of the student body is in need of additional support.

It is vital that we challenge this decision to ensure our children continue to receive the educational support they need and deserve. We urge the Education Department to revisit their decision and prioritize the educational needs of all students, especially those requiring additional support.

Sign this petition to help save our classrooms and keep our dedicated teachers and learning assistants, ensuring Penpont Primary continues to provide exceptional education to its students. Your support is crucial in making this change. Let's come together as a community and stand against this detrimental decision.
