The Issue

Stop the Proposed Taco Bell Development at the North Quincy Stop & Shop Property

To: Quincy City Council, Planning Board, and Mayor Thomas Koch

We, the undersigned residents of Quincy and surrounding neighborhoods, urge city officials to reject the proposed development of a Taco Bell drive-thru restaurant on the Stop & Shop property at 65 Newport Avenue in North Quincy.

This project raises significant concerns about traffic, safety, neighborhood character, and long-term planning priorities for one of the most congested and rapidly changing areas of our city.

1. Increased Traffic & Safety Risks
The intersection at Newport Avenue, West Squantum Street, and the Stop & Shop entrance is already one of the busiest and most problematic in North Quincy. Adding a high-volume drive-thru restaurant will worsen traffic backups, pedestrian and cyclist safety risks, and congestion for Stop & Shop customers and delivery vehicles.

2. Not in Line With Community Character or Needs
North Quincy is a dense residential neighborhood with schools, parks, and transit-oriented housing. Residents have consistently expressed interest in more green space, locally owned businesses, community-serving retail, and family-friendly amenities. A national fast-food drive-thru does not reflect the long-term vision many residents share for this area.

3. Negative Impact on Nearby Homes
Residents living along West Squantum, Newport Avenue, and the surrounding side streets will face increased noise, late-night traffic, litter, light pollution, and reduced property enjoyment. These impacts are real and long-lasting.

What We’re Asking For
We respectfully request that Quincy officials deny approval for the proposed Taco Bell development, reevaluate the site’s potential with meaningful community input, and prioritize projects that align with neighborhood values, safety, and smart growth principles.

Sign this petition to protect our neighborhood and ensure responsible development in Quincy.

Together, we can advocate for a safer, healthier, and more community-focused future for North Quincy.
