The Issue

The charm and allure of our community on Cash Valley  Rd., known for its picturesque landscapes and bustling tourism, are under threat by a proposed 4.95 megawatt community solar farm. This development will be constructed near the Western  Maryland Scenic railroad and  the Great Allegheny Passage hiking and biking trail, jeopardizing not only our environment but also the economic vitality that tourism brings to our area.

Tourism is a crucial part of our local economy, attracting visitors from near and far to experience the stunning pastoral views and engaging in recreational activities. The solar farm's planned location on a hill is not just poor planning—it will disrupt the natural beauty that draws so many to this place. The visual impact on our idyllic farmland will diminish the unique character of our community and may deter future visitors who seek the tranquility and scenic views we currently offer.

We understand the importance of renewable energy and support initiatives to progress towards sustainable futures. However, we believe that such a project should be thoughtfully placed, considering the existing landmarks and natural environments that are integral to our area’s identity. Alternative sites away from key tourist destinations and scenic views must be explored. The proposed site is on a sloped hill that no amount of vegetated screening will hide.

We implore our local authorities , planning and zoning, and the Maryland Public Service Commission to reconsider this decision and to engage in open discussions with community members. Let's work together to find a compromise that advances our commitment to renewable energy while preserving the beauty and economic significance of our landscapes.

We call on you to sign this petition to protect our community's scenic and economic resources, urging our leaders to relocate the proposed solar farm to a less sensitive area. Together, we can ensure that our community's scenic and economic heritage remains intact for generations to come. Please, join us in this effort to safeguard our environment and support our tourism industry.
