The Issue

My family has lived in Salt Springs, Nova Scotia, for generations , and I cherish this place. The proposed power plant threatens not only my home but also the heart and soul of our community. Salt Springs is a place where many of us have put down deep roots; some have lived here for seven generations, creating a rich tapestry of history and belonging that is now at risk.

This isn't just a personal plea; it's a broader social justice issue. Time and again, we notice a troubling pattern: projects that potentially threaten health and welfare are disproportionately situated in communities with low socioeconomic status. Representatives that are supposed to protect us have competing interests - and will not speak up on our behalf.

The power plant poses significant risks to our local well water, environmental health, and overall safety. As a rural community, our way of life is intricately woven with the peace and quiet of our environment. The looming facility threatens not only our tranquility but also the value of our properties.

The consequences of placing this power plant in Salt Springs are far-reaching. Our environment, from the soil to the air, may suffer irreversible harm. Our health could be adversely affected by pollutants and emissions associated with such installations. Moreover, the socio-cultural fabric of our community stands to be frayed.

We believe in progress and development, but not at the cost of our health and heritage. There are more suitable locations for such industrial developments, places that would not endanger the livelihoods and homes of hardworking Canadians.

By signing this petition, we urge local government officials, decision-makers, and project stakeholders to reconsider the placement of the power plant. Let’s protect Salt Springs, our cherished community, for current residents and future generations. Stand with us to stop this power plant and preserve the unique, picturesque charm of our home. Please sign the petition today to make a difference.
