The Issue

We all moved to this community because it offered a sanctuary of cleanliness, open green spaces, and reasonable density. The recently revised proposal to introduce four 12-storey condominiums at the corner of 6th Line and Dundas Street disrupts everything that drew us to Oakville. This project stands to permanently alter our neighborhood's character, blocking sunlight for immediate residents and burdening the already congested area with incredible additional traffic.

Originally, this site was planned to serve the community as a drugstore and medical center. However, the sudden addition of high-rise residential towers seems to turn a blind eye to the sustainable planning principles that Oakville is known for. Our peaceful streets are on the brink of becoming unlivable due to increased congestion, parking challenges, and the overflow impact on local infrastructure which is already stretched thin.

The current plan fails to include any supplementary measures to accommodate the infrastructure demands that these towers will bring. Piling these high-density buildings into a space without parallel investments in roads, public transport, or community services not only dismisses resident concerns but sets a dangerous precedent for future urban planning.

Local leaders must prioritize sustainable and community-oriented development over unabated urban sprawl. We need development that respects both the physical environment and the people who call it home, not just profits and external pressures. Responsible development considers the carrying capacity of space and does not force the existing residents to bear the consequences of overpopulation.

We urge our local government and planning authorities to oppose the approval of the proposed condos and instead work with residents to find a more balanced use of this site—one that serves the needs of the community without compromising the quality of life we cherish. Your voice is crucial in shaping the future of our neighborhood. Help us maintain Oakville's unique charm and livability.
