I am writing this petition from a personal place. Over a decade ago, when I was in school, I received little education about sex and gender identity. It saddens me to see that the progress made over the last ten years is under threat. The proposed government reform on sex education aims to prevent children under 9 from receiving comprehensive sex education and labels gender identity as a 'contested' theory.

This is not just about my personal experience but also about future generations. The World Health Organization recommends age-appropriate sexual health education starting at an early age to ensure children's safety and well-being (WHO, 2018). Moreover, understanding gender identities from an early age can foster inclusivity and reduce bullying based on gender stereotypes.

The proposed reform threatens these crucial educational elements that contribute towards creating informed, respectful individuals who understand their own bodies and respect others' identities.

We cannot let our children's education be compromised by such regressive reforms. Let us stand together against this proposal and ensure our children receive comprehensive sex education that respects all genders.
