Dear Friends,
We’ve now passed another important milestone.
As of today, our petition calling for a pause on the proposed expansion of recreational hunting for certain migratory birds in Manitoba, Canada, has reached 527 verified signatures, and new supporters continue to join. Thank you — sincerely — for signing, sharing, and adding thoughtful comments!
On February 15, the deadline for public feedback on the proposed migratory bird hunting expansions in Manitoba, we formally submitted our concerns to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Canadian Wildlife Service, and the Office of the Minister. At that time, the petition stood at 384 signatures, along with many thoughtful and passionate comments from Manitobans.
Since then, support has continued to grow -- from across Manitoba, Canada and the world -- from people like you who care about Canada’s stewardship of migratory birds.
We have now sent an updated submission reflecting all 527 signatures so decision makers can see the breadth of your engagement firsthand.
To date, we have not received a response or acknowledgement from the offices contacted on February 15. We understand regulatory processes take time, but we believe that growing public engagement deserves recognition and careful consideration before final decisions are made.
It is also worth noting that recent CBC Manitoba coverage highlighted concerns from several Manitoba hunters and outdoor stakeholders who have questioned the necessity of introducing swan and dove hunting seasons. Their perspectives show that concern about these proposals crosses communities and viewpoints.
Thank you again for helping us reach — and surpass — this milestone. Every signature strengthens the conversation. You can also add your voice by sending a brief message to decision makers using the sample email below.
We will continue to follow up respectfully and will share any responses we receive.

Subject: Concern Regarding Proposed Migratory Bird Hunting Expansions in Manitoba
Dear Minister,
I am writing to express concern regarding the proposed expansion of recreational hunting seasons for migratory birds in Manitoba, including tundra swans and mourning doves.
While I recognize that hunting can play a role in wildlife management where clearly necessary, I am not convinced that expanding hunting to these species is justified at this time, particularly given habitat pressures, disease impacts and the absence of a demonstrated overpopulation issue.
I respectfully ask that these proposals be paused pending a modern review process that reflects current science, cumulative ecological pressures and public values.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
