Dear friends,
Today we received an encouraging response from the Province of Manitoba’s Wildlife Branch Administration within the Natural Resource Stewardship Division (Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures) regarding the proposed federal changes to migratory bird hunting regulations. Their message stated:
- At this time, Manitoba is not moving forward with any provincial regulatory changes related to this proposal
- Changes to migratory bird hunting regulations requires careful review of biological data, harvest management considerations, and a broad range of input
- The government is aware of the public discussion and engagement around this issue
- It will review the outcome of the federal consultation process and continue discussions before determining any future provincial actions
The Province also acknowledged the concerns raised and noted that public input — including our petition and your thoughtful comments and videos — will be documented and considered as part of their review.
While the proposals remain a federal decision-making process, it is encouraging to see that the Manitoba government is aware of the issue and is taking a measured and considered approach.
The good news is your voices are being heard, and that thoughtful, respectful engagement makes a difference. We still await responses from federal decision makers, and we will continue to follow up and share updates as we receive them.
Thank you again for your continued support, your comments and your willingness to stay engaged on this issue.
With gratitude,
Tamara Bodi
