The Issue

This development shows a complete disregard for the views of residents and parishioners. The Parish Council has demonstrated no genuine interest in listening to the community it claims to represent — instead pushing forward a plan that benefits a few while permanently damaging the character of our village.

None of the decision-makers live in the hub of Pooley Bridge, and it shows. They do not experience the daily queues, congestion, and heavy footfall that residents endure, yet they presume to decide what’s best for us. While we agree there is scope for improved parking provision, the proposed location is wholly inappropriate, ill-considered, and would irreparably alter the landscape we all cherish.

One of the most pressing concerns is the potential blockage of access for emergency services. It’s imperative that emergency vehicles such as mountain rescue, fire trucks, and ambulances are able to reach the village without delay. The risk of gridlock on and around Pooley Bridge could significantly hinder these vital services from reaching those in need, which is an unacceptable threat to both residents and visitors, especially during peak times when the area is filled with swimmers, runners, and hikers.

Many villagers feel this process has been conducted without transparency or honesty. Why are residents not being properly consulted? Why does it appear that Pooley Bridge is being treated as a cash cow for outside interests, with no thought for those who live here year-round?

We call for this proposal to be stopped immediately. Pooley Bridge deserves responsible, community-led planning — not decisions made behind closed doors, driven by short-term profit over long-term preservation.

Join us in saying NO to the Eusemere car park and YES to protecting the integrity, beauty, and community spirit of Pooley Bridge.
