Stop the proposed Aldi at Brook Street

Stop the proposed Aldi at Brook Street
The Issue
Aldi are proposing to build a large supermarket on the site of the two car showrooms
on the corner of Brook Street and Mascalls Lane, directly opposite Brook Street Post Office.
https://brentwoodaldi.your-feedback.co.uk/
This is a residential stretch of Brook Street where traffic already queues heavily during busy
periods. The junction is regularly congested and difficult to navigate. Introducing supermarket-
level traffic and daily HGV delivery vehicles would make the situation significantly worse.
Residents living directly opposite and adjacent to the proposed site would be subjected to
increased noise, light pollution, and vehicle disturbance throughout the day and evening. This development would change the character of Brook Street from a local community area to a
busy commercial traffic zone.
This proposal also puts the future of Brook Street Post Office at serious risk. The Post Office has served the community for many decades, providing essential services including cash withdrawals and deposits, bill payments, parcel services, and daily support to elderly and vulnerable residents. Aldi does not and cannot provide these services. If the Post Office becomes unsustainable due to this development, those services and community support may be lost permanently.
Once a Post Office closes in an area, it is rarely replaced.
We are not against development or investment in Brentwood, but this location is not suitable for
a supermarket of this scale. The increased traffic, noise, delivery operations and loss of an
essential community service would have a long-term negative impact on Brook Street.
We call on Brentwood Borough Council and Essex County Council to oppose this development
and protect the Post Office, local residents, and the character of our community.
