A 440MW Power Park is being proposed at Markham Moor, directly bordering the village of Milton.

This is a major development on approximately 20 acres (8.1 hectares) of agricultural land. The plans include:

A 440MW grid-connected electricity substation covering around 6 acres.
Up to 60 rapid charging bays for electric HGVs.
Charging canopies up to 5.5 metres high.
A new internal road network and access from the A57/A1 roundabout.
A new bridge across a small stream to provide access to the site.
Security fencing approximately 2.1 metres high, lighting and security infrastructure.
A potential diversion of West Markham Bridleway 5, which currently crosses the site.
A driver welfare building including toilets, rest facilities and a café.
The applicant estimates that, once fully operational, the facility could be used by around 800 vehicles every day.

Why are local residents concerned?
This development would fundamentally change the character of this rural area and would bring significant industrial and electrical infrastructure directly alongside Milton.

The site is also close to important heritage and archaeological assets. The Grade I listed Milton Mausoleum is approximately 450 metres from the site, while Nottinghamshire County Council's archaeologist has identified potential for prehistoric, Roman and medieval archaeological remains.

Nottinghamshire County Council has raised concerns about the archaeological information provided by the applicant and has stated that a simple watching brief could be insufficient. It has recommended detailed archaeological investigation, including geophysical survey and trial trench evaluation of the entire site, if an Environmental Impact Assessment is required.

There are also important questions around traffic, highway safety, noise, lighting, drainage, biodiversity, landscape impact, construction activity and the impact on the public rights of way.

We believe this needs proper scrutiny
The current application, 26/00709/SCR, is an EIA screening application. Bassetlaw District Council has concluded that the proposal is “Not EIA Development”.

We believe the scale of this proposal and the issues raised by Nottinghamshire County Council mean that this decision deserves proper scrutiny.

We are calling on Bassetlaw District Council to stop the proposed Power Park at Markham Moor and to protect Milton, Markham Moor and the surrounding countryside from inappropriate large-scale development.

We also want Bassetlaw to ensure that, should a full planning application be submitted, it receives full public and democratic scrutiny, with all necessary environmental, archaeological, traffic, heritage and infrastructure impacts properly assessed.
