The Issue

This isn’t just about Mold – it’s about Flintshire-wide access to essential facilities. We would like 3000+ signatures.

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the proposed closure of the public conveniences at Mold Bus Station in Flintshire.

These public toilets are a vital amenity for:

  • Elderly and disabled passengers
  • Parents with young children
  • Commuters and bus users
  • Tourists and shoppers
  • Bus drivers and station staff

Mold Bus Station is a key transport hub in Flintshire, and access to clean, safe public toilets is essential for dignity, hygiene, and accessibility — especially for vulnerable individuals.

Removing this service would negatively impact both residents and visitors, and may discourage the use of public transport and the local high street.

We urge Flintshire County Council to reconsider this closure, and instead explore alternative solutions to maintain these vital facilities for the benefit of the community and those who rely on them daily.

A Call for a Better Solution - Public toilets are not a luxury—they are vital infrastructure. We urge the Council to:

  • Explore sustainable funding options or partnerships,
  • Prioritise accessibility and dignity as part of Flintshire’s commitment to a healthier, fairer, and more sustainable future

I am given to understand that Flintshire County Council has recently received significant funding from the Welsh Government under two major schemes:

£160,000 via the Brilliant Basics Tourism Fund, for the “Discover Flintshire by Trails” initiative.
Over £1.5 million from the Transforming Towns Programme, to revitalise high streets and town centre premises.
Yet, despite the clear pressures on public finances and the well-known threat to local public toilets, none of this funding has been used to safeguard or upgrade toilet facilities—even though they are essential for tourism, town accessibility, and community health. This is not just an oversight—it’s a systemic issue:

A small portion of this funding could have easily been invested to convert toilets into pay-to-use services to offset running costs, protecting them from closure.
Why are Council departments not working collaboratively across tourism, regeneration, and public services to deliver joined-up outcomes?
Senior managers and Cabinet Members have a responsibility to share issues across their remits and identify cross-cutting solutions at a strategic level. That does not appear to be happening.
