Stop the plan for 450 more houses on Lambshear Lane, Lydiate

Stop the plan for 450 more houses on Lambshear Lane, Lydiate
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of Lydiate and Maghull, oppose the proposal to build up to 450 houses on Lambshear Lane, Lydiate.
We recognise that new homes are needed, but this plan doesn’t address the serious risks it creates for our community. It ignores concerns about infrastructure, public services, the environment, and the character of the village. We are asking Sefton Council to reject the planning application submitted by Mac/Mic Ltd.
The site is one of the key green spaces that helps define Lydiate. It sits close to homes, well-used walking routes, and areas that support local wildlife. Developing it would increase traffic on roads that already struggle, put more pressure on local services, and take away one of the last open spaces in this part of the parish.
Residents have repeatedly said they want to protect Lydiate’s green areas and avoid large developments that don’t bring real benefit. This proposal doesn’t meet local needs or improve affordability in any meaningful way. Instead, it risks permanent damage to the environment and to the village’s identity.
There are also clear and growing pressures on essential services. Many residents already struggle to register with a GP or dentist, and this is especially worrying for our ageing population. Adding hundreds of new homes would stretch healthcare even further. Local schools are at full capacity and under pressure to accommodate the children who live here now. Roads and public transport are also unable to cope with a large increase in households, which would mean more congestion and greater safety risks for pedestrians and cyclists.
The environmental impact is another major concern. Losing this green space would harm local wildlife, reduce natural habitats, and take away an important area used for recreation and wellbeing. Once the land is gone, it’s gone for good.
Residents do not feel they have been properly consulted or informed about the long-term implications of the development. People want a fair conversation, not decisions made without meaningful community involvement.
We are asking Sefton Council to refuse this application and to work with residents on responsible and appropriate planning that protects what makes Lydiate special. Development should be shaped by the needs of the community, not imposed at its expense.
Please add your name to show Sefton Council that Lydiate wants this green space protected. Together, we can make sure our voices are heard and that the future of the village is safeguarded.
