Stop the Pet Overpopulation Problem in GA

The Issue

I recently reached out to Governor Kemp asking that he work alongside the volunteers in the great state of Georgia to help solve the pet overpopulation problem! Together we can be a beacon of hope and an example for other states in the South where the problem is at its worst! Please sign this petition and share so Governor Kemp knows Georgians want to solve this problem together once and for all!

I am including Tiger’s picture as the symbol for this petition. Tiger is on the CODE RED list for 3/6 at our local animal control. This boy is friendly and gets along with dogs and cats and shouldn’t have to die. Worst part is he is only 15-18 months old. A baby! Unfortunately, dogs like Tiger end up on the Code Red List in this state every day We HAVE to do something NOW to stop this problem in our state.

Governor Kemp,

My family and I recently moved to Heard County, GA from Delaware where we resided for the last 7 years. I am an avid animal lover and have been helping rescue pets for almost half my life. I have, unfortunately, noticed quickly that GA is in crisis mode with the sheer amount of unwanted, neglected, abused and discarded pets. In all 7 years that I lived in Delaware I never once saw a stray. Delaware, as I’m sure you may know, is the first state to gain control of their overpopulation of pets and they are the first no kill state. I believe in my heart that Georgia can eventually get to that point as well and be an example for the South.

The shelter and rescue volunteers are drowning in the amount of dogs and cats that are coming through the shelters. I recently began fostering, volunteering and networking for Heard County Animal Control. I want to do more though. I believe that the volunteers all over this state can come together with our local and state government and get a plan together for an aggressive spay/neuter program. We could even look to establish laws against having unaltered pets. People should not be allowed to dump unwanted litters at an already over capacity shelter and continue to have unaltered pets.

I believe this would be a good thing for Georgia. We can be an example for the entire Southern part of the United States where the pet overpopulation problem is at its worst. It will make our roadways and neighborhoods safer as well. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen dead pets on the side of 27. It is dangerous for drivers.

I look forward to hearing from you and I hope we can work together to try to implement change.
