On Thursday of last week, the driver of this yellow commercial vehicle was happy to show me his ferry ticket. It said his weight category was just under 39,999 lbs. and the rate he was charged was $129.40. If the CBITD rate proposal is approved by the PUC, starting June 21, 2025, the new fee for this truck will be $159, while the fee for the white automobile in front of his truck will be $170 (up from the current $82.65). This truck took up six spaces on the car ferry, btw. The CBITD board chose to postpone a commercial vehicle rate overhaul, creating a severe imbalance in their new proposed rate structure as anyone can see from the photos above.
DOES THIS SEEM FAIR TO YOU???
While the online petition with a whopping 332 signatures will be turned into the PUC this coming week, what's needed next, now that the CBITD board has filed for approval of its new rate fees, is a written paper petition requesting the PUC investigate this rate hike. We need 50 signatures at a minimum.
I will be at the Unruly Girl's Cafe from 8 to 9 a.m Sunday and Monday for anyone who wants to sign this paper petition. If anyone would like to circulate this paper petition on their own, please text me at 207-210-5756. Anyone who can't sign at those times can text me and I can come to your door if needed by appointment.
Anyone who is out of town now and can't sign in person can always file a written comment online with the PUC by going to their website and looking up the case number, which is 2025-00160.
