Residents and businesses across New York are fed up with RG&E and NYSEG’s outrageous rate increases, lack of transparency, and increases since the push of their "smart meter" installations, and many other electrical/utility price increases (delivery fee's, government projects, etc). We demand accountability, fairness, and real oversight of these utility companies before more families and businesses suffer from unjustified costs.

What’s Happening?
🔹 Skyrocketing Energy Bills in General – RG&E and NYSEG have continuously raised rates while offering little to no explanation or improvements in service. Many customers are seeing higher bills even with lower energy usage. 

🔹 Forced Smart Meters – Many customers are being pushed into smart meter installations without clear alternatives. Some have reported unexpected bill increases after installation, raising concerns about accuracy and fairness. Not to mention as a customer of NYSEG or RG&E, you can choose to opt out of having a smart meter installed. However, opting out comes with a monthly fee. For NYSEG customers, the opt-out fee is currently $13.47 per month, while RG&E customers are charged $11.56 per month. These fees are subject to change in the future. 

🔹 Unfair Billing Practices – Customers have reported being charged full power rates on low-energy appliances using as little as 1 watt of electricity. These billing policies need immediate investigation.

🔹 Go Green Initiatives That Pass the Cost to Consumers – While renewable energy is important, forcing higher costs onto consumers without transparency simply to push an agenda is unacceptable. Where is our money really going?

We Demand:
✅ A full independent audit of RG&E and NYSEG’s financials and billing practices.
✅ An immediate freeze on rate increases until transparency is established.
✅ State-level intervention to ensure affordability and prevent unfair overcharging.
