To My Family and Friends in North River,

It’s time unite, strategize and mobilize ASAP.  

Elected Officials voted to land on Laurel Road that was donated for marine purposes to use for a Burn Center for all the fire departments in the surrounding counties, as far as Halifax county.

According to North River Native, Chris Johnson, who works in the environmental field and specializes in air quality, “the burns will be producing chemicals toxins like formaldehyde from plywood and particles board etc. So2, Nox, Co from paint, gas etc. They will be putting more of those toxins in the air in one day than a huge plant like Georgia pacific will produce in a year. They won’t have any control system for scrubbing out toxins before they go into the air.” Translation, this burn center is dangerous and life threatening!

This Burn Center being built in a Black Community shouldn’t surprise anyone because Black Communities have the worst air quality in the country! Matter fact,  some of the most dangerous chemical plants in America are in majority Black Communities.  

One elected official was asked, would he put this Burn Center in his community. His reply, wait for it, No! 

This is a blatant slap in the face to everyone in North River. 

All being said, this is just dangerous for the  North River Community, it’s dangerous for everyone in the surrounding areas as well.
