Stop the new Auto Zone in Newton County

Stop the new Auto Zone in Newton County
The Issue
Planning & Zoning meeting is 3/24/2026
BOC meeting is 4/7/2026
In the heart of Newton County, on the busy intersection of Brown Bridge Rd and Kirkland Rd, construction may soon begin for another Auto Zone location. This decision, which requires a vote by the Board of Commissioners to change local zoning laws, could affect the fabric of our community.
The area in question already hosts enough automotive stores, and adding another one could overwhelm our local market. Within just a five-mile radius, there are multiple Auto Zones serving the residents. Opening another would be not only unnecessary but also detrimental to the balance and nature of our community.
Imagine the additional traffic and potential safety hazards that will come with yet another commercial zone within walking distance of residential neighborhoods. The quiet and safety of our neighborhoods could be compromised, impacting property values and the environment we're so proud of.
Additionally, an Auto Zone would not serve the diverse needs of the community members in this district. There are other more community-friendly business opportunities which could occupy the same space, offering enrichment and engagement for local residents.
Why cater to redundancy when we could have diversity? Are there truly enough cars in need of service to merit such expansion, or do other voices and needs remain unheard?
Let's make our stance clear to the Newton County Board of Commissioners. By signing this petition, you are urging them to reconsider the zoning change for developing another commercial auto parts store. Let's push for businesses that bring value in new, exciting forms, reflecting the vibrant spirit of our community.
Sign this petition today and help shape the future of Newton County in a way that reflects and supports the needs and dreams of its residents.
