Stop the Naked Bike Ride in Our Town Immediately

The Issue

the next ride is June 28th 2025! Unfortunately they don’t share a route for the ride so we are unable to know where to avoid but the one of the starting points is Laurelhurst Park in Southeast Portland
Like many in our community, I was a child when I first witnessed the naked bike ride that traipses through our town each year. The impact of seeing full-grown adults in a state of indecent exposure - unabashed and unashamed - was deeply traumatizing. Today, as a mother, I am determined to protect my children and other innocent bystanders from this unsettling spectacle.

Since the initiation of this event, we've allowed adults to expose themselves freely to everyone, including children, under the guise of recreational activity. It's a blatant disregard for public decency and a violation of our children's innocence. This disturbing occurrence doesn't only upset and traumatize the children but also the unknowing adults who may experience distress or discomfort from the unexpected sights.

While the First Amendment protects the individuals' right to express themselves, there is no place for indecent exposure in public spaces especially where it affects children. According to a study conducted by the University of New Hampshire, exposure to indecent behavior is a significant risk factor for experiencing trauma symptoms (Fergusson & Lynskey, 1997).

This is not about stifling freedom or fun; it's about protecting our community, our children, our dignity. We need to redefine the character of our town and ensure it's a space that respects and protects all its residents. Hence, we request the town council to end the naked bike ride, implement stricter rules against public nudity, and prioritize the safety of our children and community. Stand with us and sign this petition for a safer and more respectful tomorrow.
