Millions of people are affected worldwide by the price gouging, scams, and monopoly that is Ticketmaster. Tickets make it into hands of scalpers before they go on sale, dynamic pricing allows face value tickets to be marked way up, and they set aside allotments of tickets to be used at different times. Pearl Jam has tried to fight Ticketmaster before in 1994 for these exact issues and an investigation was launched but they ultimately lost. Not only price gouging but outrageous service fees and exclusive contracts with venues are a part of the problem too. Ticketmaster signs exclusive deals with venues that gives them a profit of the sales if they only sell tickets through Ticketmaster. So artists have no choice but to have their tickets sold through Ticketmaster if they want to perform at these venues. This has most recently been brought up before the Department of Justice yet again with Congressman Mike Lee - Utah and Amy Klobuchar - Minnesota in a congressional hearing last month pleading for further investigation to be done into Ticketmaster. People are sick of the monopoly and scam that is Ticketmaster and they NEED to be stopped so they can’t keep getting away with this.
