Stop the Misappropriation of Animal Hospital Land in Bangalore

The Issue

#LandGrab? As concerned citizens of Bangalore, we observe with great sadness the dissolution of critical animal healthcare facilities in our city. Over the years, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS) department has inexplicably been disposing of precious government land allocated to animal treatment under its ownership. We are deeply perturbed that a vital acre in the heart of town at the heritage Chamarajpet vet hospital serving many animals in the area was quietly transferred to the minorities commission for schools. Citizens and the courts stopped this action. Earlier AHVS  land at Malleswaram was given out on rent, while the govt clinic occupied a small space in the basement. Many critical government veterinary clinics were shut down and vets transferred back. What are we saying? That animals especially sick ones, don't matter?

Now, we hear that we are  losing about 10000 sq ft of the  heritage Superspecialty Veterinary Hospital land on prestigious Queens Rd to the Karnataka  Silk Board department for a silk store & office ! These properties, designed to aid our sick animals, are being callously repurposed to sell fashion. LETS STOP THIS NOW.

The repurposing of these spaces underscores a fundamental disrespect for the original intention of these heritage spaces – to provide treatment for animals. This issue isn't just personal, it reverberates through our city. With Bangalore's rapidly growing population and the vulnerability of voiceless animals needing medical care, these facilities are even more crucial. Animals are in dire need of shelters and in-patient facilities in these locations. Who will speak for them And yet, instead of providing for them, we're seeing plans to build additional silk shops and schools.

With each piece of land lost, we strip sick, helpless animals of their rightful aid. Without these facilities, where will our city's animals find the care they desperately need? Is a city that doesn't respect and provide for its animals the Bangalore we want to be part of?

We urge the AHVS department and relevant political authorities to halt further land transfers immediately and initiate reviews of past land disposals. We demand transparent and sensible stewardship of these essential spaces meant for animal welfare. Please, let's preserve the sanctity of these spaces and acknowledge the vital service they render to our city's animals. It's time we stood up for those who cannot speak for themselves.
