Stop the Memorialization of Jerry "The Animal" McFadden's Cell in Upshur County
The Issue
The Harrison, Turner, and Boone families, along with countless others in our community, have been living with the painful memory of a tragic event that occurred in 1986. Three young lives - Suzanne Harrison (18), Gena Turner (20), and Bryan Boone (19) - were abruptly ended by a man named Jerry "The Animal" McFadden. They were abducted from Lake Hawkins in Wood County, their futures stolen from them.
McFadden was suspected of these murders and has since become infamous for his crimes. Now, there is talk about memorializing his jail cell. This is not only inappropriate but also deeply hurtful to the families affected by his actions.
Memorializing such a person would be an affront to justice and a disregard for the victims' memories. It would send out an incorrect message about our society's values – one where criminals are glorified instead of condemned.
Instead, we should focus on remembering those who lost their lives too soon: Suzanne, Gena, and Bryan. Their memories deserve to be honored respectfully without being overshadowed by their perpetrator.
We urge you to consider the pain this proposed memorialization could cause to the victims' families and friends who are still dealing with this tragedy's aftermath. Let us not glorify crime but stand against it firmly as a community united in respect for life and justice.
Please sign this petition to stop any plans for memorializing Jerry "The Animal" McFadden's jail cell.
