Stop the Limestone Water Treatment Plant Expansion
Stop the Limestone Water Treatment Plant Expansion
The Issue
The Limestone Water Utility Operating Company is attempting to nearly double the capacity of the Limestone Water Treatment Plant—a sewage treatment facility in the middle of the River Rest neighborhood—from 0.25 to 0.45 million gallons per day. This expansion proposal would replace the current system with an industrial-sized plant featuring a 47-foot tower and increase truck traffic on neighborhood streets.
Limestone has proven time and again that they are incapable of managing the facility they have now. Area residents remain plagued by equipment failures, unattended safety hazards, and massive raw sewage spills—including a 300,000-gallon raw sewage leak in 2025 that contaminated Cartwright Creek and the Harpeth River.
Join us as we petition the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conversation (TDEC) to DENY the Limestone expansion.
