Stop the land sale at Kraxberger Middle School

Stop the land sale at Kraxberger Middle School
The Issue
The disc golf course at Kraxberger Middle School represents more than just a recreational space for me—it’s a personal project of passion and commitment. Alongside dedicated volunteers, we invested our own money and time to construct concrete tee pads, creating the only disc golf course in our city. Every day, people from all corners of our community gather here for sports, exercise, and relaxation. This green space is home to more than just disc golf; it supports baseball, track and field, and serves as a beautiful walking path that nurtures the well-being of residents of all ages.
However, the land on which these treasured activities take place is at risk of being sold by the school district. The attached image highlights in yellow the proposed land to be sold. Significantly shrinking the size of the property. This potential sale is being considered as a short-term solution to budget concerns, but it risks sacrificing a vital community asset that cannot be easily replaced. Our city already suffers from a lack of adequate green spaces, making this area indispensable for community cohesion and personal well-being.
Selling the land for a one-time financial gain is not the sustainable solution our community needs. Our city deserves a legacy of accessible outdoor spaces, contributing to both environmental health and community vitality. The educational and recreational benefits that this green space provides are invaluable.
Let's seek alternative financial solutions that preserve our much-needed green spaces while addressing the school district's budgetary challenges. We can explore options such as fundraising initiatives, community events, or grants dedicated to maintaining public recreational areas.
Join me in urging the authorities to halt the sale of this land. Let’s protect the heart of our community by keeping the greenscape at Kraxberger Middle School alive and thriving for generations to come. Please sign this petition to show your support.
