*Let us clarify something straight up....... The proposed Equis Bell Bay Wind Farm is deceptively labelled. The project is nowhere near the industrial precinct of Bell Bay located south of George Town. It is in fact proposed 6km north-east of George Town.

The group behind this petition has cherished the beauty of Tasmania’s central north coast for generations. We have lived and holidayed in this uniquely special part, creating countless memories that tie us profoundly to this land. In 2019, my son and I decided to make Bell Buoy Beach our permanent home, enticed by its serene landscapes and tranquil surroundings. However, the proposed Bell Bay Wind Farm threatens to drastically alter this cherished environment.

The construction of 28 gigantic turbines, each towering 270 meters, on private farmland owned by Bridget Archer MP, Liberal Member for Bass, and her husband, George Town Councillor, Winston Archer between Bell Buoy Beach and Beechford poses a significant threat to the natural habitat and beauty of the area. These turbines will not only transform the picturesque landscapes but potentially disrupt local ecosystems and diminish the quality of life for residents and visitors who have long treasured the unspoiled charm of this region.

The area between Bell Buoy Beach and Beechford is home to diverse wildlife and provides an essential habitat for many species. The noise and physical presence of these turbines could disturb these species, leading to long-term ecological consequences. Additionally, the construction and maintenance processes may involve substantial disturbance to the land, affecting both local flora and fauna.

Furthermore, the tourism industry, which is vital to the local economy, could suffer considerably. Visitors are drawn to this region for its untouched natural beauty, and the imposing presence of industrial turbines may deter nature enthusiasts and tourists. This not only has implications for businesses reliant on tourism but also for the broader community's socio-economic well-being.

While renewable energy is crucial for sustainable development, it should not come at the expense of cherished landscapes and communities. We propose exploring alternative locations that do not compromise the environmental integrity and cultural significance including sacred Aboriginal sites of regions like Bell Buoy Beach and Beechford.

We urge the stakeholders involved to reconsider the proposed Bell Bay Wind Farm's location and spare this precious land from industrialisation. By signing this petition, you join us in preserving the natural beauty and tranquility of Tasmania’s central north coast for current and future generations.

This project will directly impact the communities of Beechford, Bell Buoy Beach, Clarence Point, George Town, Greens Beach, Kelso, Lefroy, Lulworth, Pipers River, and Weymouth.

Please lend your voice to protect our beloved environment and way of life.
