Campaign Reaches UK Parliament - A Giant Leap

Some really exciting news for you.

On Wednesday this week, our Campaign took a giant leap forward when we met Members of Parliament and Members of the House of Lords in London.

This event was a ‘drop in’ session organised by Tonia Antonazzi MP, where Jenny and I met MP’s and Peers to discuss and secure their support.

We were blown away by their enthusiasm and we secured each one’s support by signing a ‘Pledge’ which said:

The Pledge

•  I pledge, alongside my Parliamentary colleagues, to urge the Government to ban the import and sale of flying rings into and within the UK.
•  I will also work alongside Local Authority Councillors within my constituency to rapidly seek a voluntary ban on the sale and use of flying rings.
• Finally, I will encourage my constituents including retailers to only use, buy or sell seal safe solid disc frisbees preferably ones made of non-plastic materials.

In total we had 20 Members sign which is a momentous result in just a two-hour drop-in session.

So, what are the next steps?

There are a number of options available which we are going to discuss with Tonia Antoniazzi MP and her amazing team.

We’ll keep you posted once we’ve had those in-depth discussions.

However, there were two important facts that got the Campaign to this important stage.

Firstly, YOUR support!

YOU have signed and shared our Campaign Petition which has accrued nearly 63,000 signatures…that number has got us noticed and will continue doing so.

So, to YOU I will say a HUGE thank you.

Secondly, many have expressed their support by using our template letters available on our Seal Alliance website by writing to their local Members of Parliament and Councillors requesting positive action.

All these resources are free and available to you via the website so please use them.

We also need retailers to stop selling flying rings and only sell solid disc frisbees (preferably non-plastic) so please read up on how to approach retailers (Guidance on website too).

Just a fun fact for you…. if all the signatories came together, we could fill the majority of football stadiums within the UK.

So, with a capacity of 90,000 let’s see if we can add Wembley Stadium to that fun fact…it’s very achievable with your support.
