Stop The Ilford Sainsbury's Housing Development

The Issue

Dear Mr. Matthew Pennycook MP Minister of State for Housing, Communities, and Local Government,

There has now been a planning application made by Telford Homes for the Ilford Sainsbury's site at 55 Roden Street. The developers want to have 8 blocks of flats up to 38 storeys on this site with 32 car parking spaces. People can object to this housing scheme on the Redbridge Council planning website using the reference number: 2327/22 on numerous social, environmental, public health and fire safety grounds. Not to also mention the greater strain on local health, education, police and transport services within an already highly congested area too. We therefore need as many residents and community groups to campaign by signing the above petition against this development as possible.

Objection Template Letter Ilford Sainsbury's Site 55 Roden Street Planning Application Reference Number: 2327/22 We as local residents are writing this letter of objection to inform Telford Homes about our views on behalf of regarding this proposed 837 homes and 430 student units plan of blocks up to 36 storeys for this particular site when a figure of 250 genuinely affordable homes up to a height of 10 floors would be a much more realistic proposition if any housing even had to be constructed here at all as this area is more suited to commercial rather than residential usage for social and economic reasons anyway. We believe that the amount of housing planned should be drastically reduced along with the overall height of the tower blocks as well for numerous public health, fire safety, social and environmental reasons as there are currently enough housing schemes either planned or currently taking place within Ilford town centre itself. Fundamentally constructing a housing scheme of this excessive scale will also contribute to an unbearable strain on local health, education, public transport especially as there will only be 32 car parking spaces and other essential services which have also been affected by the recent coronavirus pandemic which really has shown about the effect of high-density housing on the greater spread of this virus particularly amongst people living within tower blocks in highly polluted as well as congested areas that have a lack of close access to open green spaces rather like this location around Ilford Sainsbury's does too as is shown within the study here:

https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/london-assembly-publications/covid-19-housing-typologies-and-design-london

Also this development is only 35% affordable whereas according to the latest Greater London Authority planning rules all new large scale housing schemes should be at least 50% affordable.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. Paul Scott.
