Stop the hunting of bears in Florida

Stop the hunting of bears in Florida
The Issue
These magnificent creatures have inhabited Florida long before humans settled in. It's heartbreaking to witness how humans, in their quest for space and development, have encroached upon the natural habitats of these bears. Now, in a cruel twist, it seems like the state's solution to this conflict is to reduce the bear population rather than finding a harmonious way for both humans and bears to coexist. This isn't fair. The bears were here first.
In the 1990s, the Florida black bear was classified as a threatened species, and due to diligent conservation efforts, their numbers began to rise. However, allowing hunting could quickly undo the positive impacts of decades of dedicated work. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the population of Florida black bears was estimated to be around 4,050 bears in 2017. These numbers can be easily diminished if hunting is permitted.
It is crucial to understand that hunting isn't a sustainable answer to bear-human interactions. Alternative solutions could include better urban planning to avoid wildlife corridors, investing in bear-awareness programs, and improving waste management to prevent bears from being attracted to human communities in the first place.
Florida should be a state proud of its wildlife conservation efforts, not one that diminishes its natural heritage through unnecessary hunting. It is vital for us and the bears to develop solutions that respect the life of every creature. Urge the Florida government to ban bear hunting and promote more humane and effective measures to handle wildlife interactions.
Sign this petition to protect Florida's bears and ensure they have a rightful place in our shared environment.
