The Issue

I will keep this brief. Human rights don’t stop once your discharged. While employed as a Security Officer for Banner health I witnessed truly abhorrent things and the target are the most vulnerable of us. The staggering homeless population within Phoenix! Roughly 1 out of every 3 homeless are vets but all homeless have a story and I am deeply concerned about the treatment of homeless individuals at Banner University. During my time near Banner facilities, I personally witnessed situations where homeless people’s belongings were mishandled, bags emptied out onto their heads or the bus stop ground and their safety was put at risk in countless ways! Assault is assault regardless of our current situation.

Human rights are god given regardless of your current situation.

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the reports of horrible treatment of homeless individuals by staff at Banner University. Every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and respect regardless of their housing situation.

Banner University is a leading healthcare institution, and with that comes the responsibility to uphold the highest ethical standards. Mistreatment of the homeless community not only harms vulnerable individuals but also erodes public trust in an organization that should serve as a place of care and healing.

We demand that Banner University:

Investigate all reports of mistreatment of homeless individuals by staff.
Provide mandatory training to all staff on compassion, patient rights, and trauma-informed care.
Establish clear accountability measures to prevent future harm.
Partner with local organizations to better support homeless patients and community members. Provide better training to security personnel and improve their checks and balances is a must!!!

By signing this petition, we call on Banner University leadership to take immediate action to ensure that homeless individuals receive the respectful and humane treatment they deserve.
