The Issue
I am a single parent with two disabled children living on a quiet and serene road in our community. The prospect of a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) being built on Aldershaw Road fills me with dread and fear. Our peaceful neighborhood is on the verge of an unforeseen change, and I worry every day about the implications it could have for my family and our local community.
Our road has always been a haven of tranquility, a place where children can play safely and neighbors greet each other with a warm smile. The concept of an HMO, unfortunately, threatens to disrupt this harmony. Often, HMOs are associated with higher levels of noise, late-night disturbances, increased litter (including hazardous items like needles), and greater levels of policing and emergency services presence due to potential unruly behavior.
For a single parent like myself, the impact of such changes can be deeply unsettling. The added stress of worrying about fights erupting on our street or the sound of sirens disrupting our nights is more than we should have to bear. Our community has always been close-knit and supportive, and we are deeply concerned about how an HMO might change the social fabric of our beloved neighborhood.
Studies have shown that neighborhoods near HMOs often see an increase in crime rates and an influx of transitory residents who do not have the investment in maintaining community wellbeing. According to reports, areas can experience diminished property values and a lack of community cohesion.
We, the residents of Aldershaw Road, urge the local council and planning authorities to reconsider the approval of this HMO. We propose looking into alternative housing solutions that preserve the integrity and safety of our neighborhood. Controlled development or the use of housing for families or senior residents, who create less disturbance and have more stable housing patterns, could be evaluated.
Let's keep Aldershaw Road the peaceful place we love and cherish. Please sign this petition to prevent the construction of an HMO on our street. Your support can help safeguard our community's tranquility and protect the wellbeing of all residents. Thank you."}
