The Issue
As a queer, proud Brightonian and a mother of two, I am deeply concerned about the hateful march planned to descend on Brighton on 13 June. I never imagined a day where groups with openly fascist ideologies, verging on neo-Nazi sentiments, would be allowed to march through our vibrant, inclusive community.
This is not just an affront to individuals like myself, a gay person living openly and freely, but a direct threat to anyone who is a person of colour, of a different religion, or otherwise marginalized or targeted by such hate-fueled ideologies. Brighton has always been a welcoming and diverse city, a bastion of acceptance and unity. Allowing a march that so aggressively challenges these fundamentals is terrifying.
What am I supposed to tell my children? That it's acceptable for people to parade through our beloved city, spreading messages of hate and discrimination? It is essential that we stand together as a community to let these groups know that their views are neither accepted nor welcome here.
We must urge the relevant authorities, particularly the Brighton & Hove City Council and Sussex Police, to revoke the permissions granted for this march. By allowing it to proceed, we endorse a platform for dangerous ideologies and sow seeds of fear and division in our society.
The city of Brighton and its residents have a long history of standing up against hate and promoting inclusivity and love. We must honor this tradition by coming together to stop this march from taking place.
Please sign this petition to tell the authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of all Brighton's residents and uphold the values of acceptance, diversity, and unity that make our city so special. Together, we can and must halt this wave of hate. Your signature could make all the difference.
