Stop the Harms of Fireworks Now

Stop the Harms of Fireworks Now
The Issue
For most, problems with fireworks are more than a minor inconvenience. They pose a serious issue to our loved ones and countless others in our neighbourhood who endure profound distress because of the loud explosions. Animals and those with sensory issues are particularly impacted, their peace repeatedly disrupted and fear instilled because of an entertainment that can easily be replaced.
According to the Humane Society, the loud noises produced by fireworks cause a lot of anxiety in animals, leading them to run away, hide, and potentially hurt themselves. Similarly, The National Autistic Society reports that 1 in every 100 people is on the autism spectrum. Many of these individuals experience increased sensitivity to light and sound, thus, contributing to physical discomfort and high levels of stress during firework displays.
Destructive as they are to both the mental and physical well-being of our community, the benefits from the occasional display of fireworks pale in comparison. It's necessary to rethink our traditions and find safer, inclusive, and less disruptive alternatives to fireworks.
It's time to put an end to this stress on our community. It starts here. Help us reduce anxiety and fear by stopping the usage of loud and disturbing fireworks and creating Firework Control Zones. Sign this petition and let us make our voices heard. Let's protect those vulnerable and ensure a peaceful environment for all.
