The Issue

The Halifax Forum has been a vital community hub for decades, serving as a recreational and sporting facility for the people of Halifax and its user groups. The proposed redevelopment plan, which involves shutting down the facility for over three years, poses significant challenges to the user groups currently using this facility. This closure will cause serious disruptions, harming all the user groups that rely on its services. The Forum provides 70 hours weekly for various minor hockey associations, ringette associations and elite teams that cannot simply be replaced or redistributed to other facilities.

We understand progress is necessary, but a redevelopment that sidelines the needs of the people is certainly not the way forward. Halifax is in dire need of a 3-4 ice pad facility to adequately support all of our user groups. The best course of action would be to build a new facility that meets these requirements and not disrupt any user groups for 3+ years.

Our goal is to have a facility that meets the current and future demands of our community, ensuring that no group is left without the means to continue their activities in the interim. We are not against redevelopment per se, but it must cater to the actual needs of the people who use it the most.

We call upon city planners, local government officials, and stakeholders involved to reconsider the redevelopment strategy. It's important to find a solution that benefits everyone and ensures the sports and recreational needs of Halifax are not compromised for such a lengthy period of time.

We need your support to make our voices heard. Let's push for a practical and beneficial solution for Halifax. Please sign this petition to stop the current redevelopment plan and advocate for a facility that truly serves the community's needs!
