The Halifax County Board of Commissioners, the Members of the Halifax County Economic Development Commission, nor the citizens of Halifax County, NC have any guarantees that the Quiet Data Center Halifax Inc. data center will not affect our electric, water, and gas bills, now or in the future. They have no idea whether this data center or any other data center will affect the environment, which includes the citizens, the animals, the plants, and water. You have not seen the environmental impact and electrical load studies, which they admitted to at the August 25, 2026 special meeting; and the citizens are not being allowed to access the reports. 

For such a large footprint and impact, this data center does not guarantee our Halifax County, NC citizens job positions. Furthermore, the 50 permanent jobs promised actually do not have to be filled according to the contract agreement. QDCH can pay a non-compliance penalty of $2,500. per year, per any of the 50 positions not filled; no salary, no benefits. This and other information was left out of the presentation at the given to the citizen. This is a large loophole and there are way too many other loopholes in this deal to go through with it,  such as expansion, the need for more resources, and much more. 

Due to the lithium-ion batteries storage, high-density server racks, electrical systems, constant power usage, and chemicals in cooling systems, not to mention weather and wildfire events, make these data centers fire hazards that can spread fast . Fire departments around the country and overseas have had many emergency calls to deal with at data centers. Many say they have been overwhelmed by energency calls from the data centers and had to put in many hours to deal with these fires that spread very quickly. They say it depletes a lot of their resources and takes away from other emergencies, with some taking more than 24 hours to deal with.   Also, they say the data centers need better layouts and the fire departs need  better and more training to deal with these data center fires. These fires can cause damage in the millions and account for more than 50% of the $800 million in business insurance claims. Someone has to pay for those claims and that is a good way to cause insurance policies to rise.

A contractor working on Meta's data center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, contaminated the city's recycled wastewater system with a rare bacterium... this is just one instance. Amazon data centers have experienced multiple major fires and dozens of emergency responses globally.  Here are just two instances in the United States: 
Ohio Facilities: First responders in Jerome Township, Ohio, received 84 emergency calls for two Amazon data centers over a four-year period.
Major Ohio Fire: A large two-alarm fire in April 2026 caused over $50 million in damage and burned for more than 24 hours. How far will that $250 million go if we have to deal with things like this?

We, the citizens of Halifax County, NC, call on the Halifax County Board of Commissioners, the members of the Halifax County Economic Development Commission, and County Manager to stop the deal with Quiet Data Center Halifax, Inc.
