The Issue

Living near the proposed residential project by Habitat OC at 621 West Alton Avenue in Santa Ana, CA, I am deeply concerned about the impact it will have on our community. This location is a home church to many locals and myself. It has been a gathering place for worship, community events, and support for residents. It has witnessed countless life events, from weddings to memorial services, and fosters a sense of belonging among all its attendees. The streets surrounding this location are already crowded and see heavy traffic daily. Adding a new residential complex will exacerbate these issues, particularly affecting residents like myself who face parking challenges and congestion regularly.

The project site is directly opposite a school, which further complicates matters. The school already brings significant traffic into the area, especially during pick-up and drop-off hours. Plus we have the high-school traffic across the street on Flower and Dyer. Introducing more residences will inevitably lead to increased vehicular movement, risking the safety of children and adding to the congestion nightmare for parents and neighbors. Affordable housing is great but not in an area where it causes issues for neighbors, safety for emergency vehicles and children pedestrians. This is not a good location for this project.

Santa Ana is a vibrant and thriving community, but its infrastructure is not equipped to handle a sudden influx of new residents without prior enhancement of its current facilities. The roadways are already choked, and parking is a constant struggle. Allocating resources to construct additional housing without addressing these pre-existing issues is not a sustainable or community-friendly approach.

Moreover, studies and reports have consistently shown that increased traffic in residential areas leads to higher pollution levels, which can have severe long-term health effects on residents, particularly children and the elderly who are more vulnerable. With the school's close proximity to the proposed site, these environmental factors must not be overlooked.

We urge city planners and local authorities to reconsider and halt this project until a complete assessment of its potential impact is thoroughly evaluated and addressed. This includes considering alternative locations for the development or enhancing current infrastructure to accommodate growth without compromising quality of life for existing residents.

Our community deserves a thoughtful and considered approach to development that respects the needs of current residents while planning for future growth responsibly. Please help us protect the safety and well-being of Santa Ana's residents by signing this petition to stop the Habitat OC project at 621 West Alton Avenue.
