The Issue

The Great Nicobar project is a devastating blow to India's cherished environment. This serious matter is personal to me because I care deeply about the environment, biodiversity, and the preservation of India’s natural heritage. It's infuriating to witness ecologically sensitive regions being devastated for large-scale development. I am not only concerned about the future of our country but also the health of our planet.

Great Nicobar's forests, wildlife, oceans, and indigenous communities are being treated as mere resources to be sacrificed at the altar of corporate profit and political ambition. This exploitation of nature by powerful entities jeopardizes the future of ordinary citizens, leaving us helpless as we see our natural heritage vanish.

The government has no right to damage these fragile ecosystems. We stand on the brink of irrevocable environmental loss, climate imbalance, and biodiversity collapse. These are not isolated concerns; they are interwoven with the wellbeing of our future generations.

Scientific reports and environmental assessments, including from reputed organizations like the Wildlife Institute of India, have highlighted the irreplaceable value of Great Nicobar's ecosystems and the grave risks posed by the proposed developments. Destroying these habitats threatens not only the endemic flora and fauna but also disrupts the lifestyles and livelihoods of the indigenous communities who reside there.

Alternative solutions exist that can meet developmental objectives without sacrificing ecological integrity. Sustainable development models, eco-tourism, and community-based conservation programs have proven successful in other regions without causing such extensive environmental degradation.

To protect our natural heritage, ensure a healthy future, and honor the rights of indigenous communities, immediate action is necessary. We cannot allow the short-term gains of a few to outweigh the long-term wellbeing of many.

I urge you to join me in demanding that the Great Nicobar project be stopped immediately. Sign this petition to send a clear message to decision-makers that our environment is not for sale.
