The Issue

Each year, the Grand National and Cheltenham races capture the attention of millions, yet behind the glamour and excitement lies a heart-wrenching reality of animal cruelty masked as entertainment. Recently, these events concluded with horses being whipped to the point of exhaustion, only to face the grim outcome of severe injury or death.

Horses are majestic creatures deserving of respect and humane treatment, not victims in a race for human amusement and profit. The brutal training regimens they endure, coupled with the intense pressure during these races, often lead to catastrophic injuries. The welfare of these noble animals is continually compromised, all in the name of sport.

According to the RSPCA, horse racing leads to around 200 horse deaths annually in the UK. Statistics from Animal Aid indicate that since 2000, an average of 29 racehorses have died each year on British racecourses. These figures are not just numbers, they represent real lives cut tragically short for fleeting entertainment.

The time for change is now. We urge the British Horseracing Authority to introduce stringent regulations that prioritize the welfare of horses, including bans on the use of whips and restrictions on race lengths to prevent exhaustion and injury. Furthermore, we call on the government to re-evaluate the ethical implications of horse racing and to consider banning these events that are inherently harmful to animals.

Together, we can put an end to these cruel practices and champion a future where respect for life prevails over profit. Let us raise our voices and demand accountability and compassion for these voiceless victims. Sign this petition to safeguard the dignity and well-being of horses, and to stop horse racing sports once and for all.
