✋ Stop the Forced Adoption of a 7-Year-Old Indian Girl in the UK

The Issue

A mother who survived domestic abuse deserves protection, not separation.

A 7-year-old girl of Indian origin in East London is facing permanent separation from her mother through adoption — despite her mother’s extraordinary courage and recovery after surviving severe domestic violence.

After escaping years of abuse, the mother has engaged in counselling, therapy, and domestic-abuse recovery programmes, showing emotional stability and commitment to creating a safe home for her child. Yet, instead of being supported to reunite with her daughter, she has been met with a devastating legal outcome.

Earlier this year, the Family Court granted a care and placement order, allowing local authorities to place the child for adoption. The mother appealed, but in October 2025, the Court of Appeal refused permission to appeal, effectively closing the domestic legal path.

Despite this, she continues to pursue international and humanitarian legal avenues to seek justice and the right to be heard as a rehabilitated and protective parent.

💔 Why This Matters

Adoption is permanent and irreversible. Once finalised, the child will lose all legal ties with her mother and cultural identity forever. The Women Empowerment Network UK believes this decision is unjust and premature, especially when the mother’s progress and the community’s willingness to support her have been ignored.

Several community members have already come forward to offer fostering placements, providing the child a safe and nurturing home while preserving the possibility of future reunification once risk is reassessed.

This is not justice — it is the punishment of a survivor who needed protection, not separation.

💔 What We Are Asking

We call upon:

  • The London Borough of Newham to pause or stay all steps toward adoption placement or matching to allow the appeal and diplomatic review to proceed, and
  • The Indian High Commission to ensure that the child’s cultural and family rights are respected.

Several community members have expressed willingness to act as foster carers, providing the child with stability and safety while keeping open the door to reunification once risks are reassessed.

Fostering offers compassion and balance — adoption closes every door.
