Stop the Femicide in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico

The Issue

Ciudad Juarez, Mexico is one of the most dangerous cities in the world.  Drug cartels are at war there, and women and young girls have been going missing/turning up murdered since the early 90s.  The Mexican government has done little to investigate this femicide and, despite that fact that many of these women are living in this Mexican-American border because of the American-owned factories that have been placed there, neither has the American government.

A brave young girl has recently come forward.  This 16-year-old has told how she was lured off the Juarez streets into a human trafficking ring, where she was held captive, raped and abused.  She managed to escape and, thanks to her coming forward with her story about this ring that she says traffics women and children across the Mexican-US border, authorities have said they will begin an investigation.

We must put pressure on both American and Mexican officials to begin this investigation now and stop the femicide in Juarez.  As Americans, we own the factories that employ these girls and consume the goods they make.  And there is now strong evidence that women and children are being trafficked across the border into the U.S.
