Stop the FEI from unethical rule change allowing injured horses to compete

Stop the FEI from unethical rule change allowing injured horses to compete
The Issue
In November, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) will be voting on a controversial proposal that threatens the welfare and safety of horses in competitive sports.
This proposed new rule change would permit horses to continue competing even after they are visibly injured, having blood in their mouth or nose. The current rule states that blood is grounds for immediate elimination. This proposed change is moving backwards when it comes to horse welfare.
This is an appalling and unethical decision that could have dire consequences for the horses that bring so much beauty and grace to the sport.
It is also a direct departure from the 5 Domains of Horse Welfare Assessment, against Ethics, Empathy and Evidence.
The presence of blood is typically a clear indicator of a possible injury or trauma. Ignoring such signs can lead to severe health issues, not only affecting the physical and mental well-being of the horse but also endangering the rider's safety.
Additionally, it serves to further enable riders in putting competitive interests above horse welfare, which is in direct contradiction to the FEI’s own Horse Welfare Code of Conduct.
The FEI is an authoritative body responsible for overseeing international equestrian competitions and ensuring the well-being of horses.
Their mission should prioritize animal welfare over competition results. This proposed rule disregards the fundamental principles of animal rights and welfare, paving the way for unethical practices in tournaments worldwide
Upholding the highest standard of horse care and respect is paramount for the integrity and moral standing of equestrian sports and the FEI is failing both horses and riders.
We demand that the FEI halts this proposed rule change and puts effort into to enforce stricter welfare regulations that protect horses from competing when they're injured or showing visible signs of distress.
The sport's reputation and its future rely on ethical practices that respect our equine partners and recognize their contributions and limitations.
Horse sports should not be a blood sport.
Please sign this petition to urge the FEI to retract this unethical rule change and reaffirm their commitment to the responsible and humane treatment of competition horses. Your signature can help safeguard the welfare of these majestic animals and ensure the equestrian community honors their duty of care to every horse.
