STOP THE FAIRFAX COUNTY PROPERTY TAX HIKE!

STOP THE FAIRFAX COUNTY PROPERTY TAX HIKE!
The Issue
Dear Fairfax County Residents,
We, the concerned residents of Fairfax County, are uniting to voice our strong opposition to the anticipated increase in real estate property taxes in 2025.
Our community has witnessed a significant rise in property taxes in recent years, placing an undue financial burden on homeowners and renters alike. While we understand the need for essential county services, we believe that the current trajectory of property tax increases is unsustainable and disproportionately affects working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small business owners.
While our paychecks shrink under the weight of soaring living costs and relentless inflation, Fairfax County continues to bleed us dry with ever-increasing property taxes. This isn't just a budget issue; it's a direct attack on the financial stability of middle-class working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and small business owners who are the backbone of our community.
Our Concerns:
- Rapidly Rising Assessments: The continuous surge in property assessments is outpacing our ability to keep up, leading to exorbitant tax bills.
- Unrelenting Assessment Hikes: Our homes, once symbols of stability, are now financial traps. The county's inflated assessments are turning our equity into a tax burden we can no longer bear.
- Inflation's Double Whammy: With inflation already hammering our wallets, these tax hikes are a cruel and unnecessary blow. It's a recipe for financial ruin for countless families.
- Lack of Transparency: Many residents feel uninformed about how property tax revenue is allocated and the justification for these increases.
- Affordability Crisis: The escalating property taxes are contributing to the growing affordability crisis in Fairfax County, forcing long-time residents to consider leaving their homes.
- Budgetary responsibility: We demand that the board of supervisors explore all possible avenues to reduce spending before placing the burden on the tax payers.
Our Demands:
- Freeze Property Tax Increases: We call on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to freeze property tax increases for 2025.
- Stop the Squeeze: Explore alternative revenue streams that don't bleed middle-class families dry. Stop placing the entire burden of the county's budget on home owners.
- Fair Assessments, Not Fantasies: We demand a complete overhaul of the property assessment process. It must be fair, accurate, and reflect the true market value of our homes, not some inflated fantasy.
- Increase Transparency: We demand greater transparency in the county's budget process, including clear explanations of how property tax revenue is used.
- Review Property Assessments: We call for a comprehensive review of the property assessment process to ensure fairness and accuracy.

We believe that by working together, we can make a difference. Sign this petition to send a clear message to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors that we will not tolerate further property tax hikes.
Together, we can protect the affordability and livability of our community.

Additional Information:
- Fairfax County’s real estate tax rate remains at $1.125 per $100 of assessed value in 2025. However, the average property assessment has risen by 6.65%, increasing the average tax bill by $566.
- 2024 Tax Bill: $8,376 | 2025 Tax Bill: $8,942 | Increase: $566
- In 2024, the county already increased the tax rate by 3 cents per $100 assessed value, resulting in a $450 annual increase for homeowners.
- Thousands of federal employees and contractors have been laid off—yet Fairfax County continues to demand more from struggling families.
- Rising taxes, coupled with inflation, job losses, and increasing costs of living, are forcing many residents to consider leaving the county altogether. Without relief, Fairfax risks losing its middle-class foundation.
