The Issue
🚨 JACKSON PUBLIC SCHOOLS COMMUNITY—WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🚨
📢 Did you know? While Jackson Public Schools (JPS) faces a $4 MILLION budget shortfall and is considering laying off teachers and staff, Superintendent Jeffery Beal is STILL receiving an extra salary under a separate contract—on top of his regular pay!
💰 The facts:
🔹 JPS is discussing staff layoffs due to budget cuts.
🔹 Superintendent Beal receives $64,946 in extra duty pay each year—with an automatic 2% increase annually—on top of his $171,589 superintendent salary (which ALSO increases by 2% yearly).
🔹 The district already has a Director of Human Resources, yet this extra contract remains in place.
🔹 JPS lost $388,485 in a lawsuit—further straining district finances.
🔹As of 2022, three schools in Jackson Public Schools—Fourth Street Learning Center, John R. Lewis Elementary, and South Central Michigan Virtual—were designated for Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) by the Michigan Department of Education due to low performance. This means they are among the state's lowest-performing schools and will receive additional support and intervention.
🔹 Now, JPS may ask taxpayers for more money through another bond proposal—while failing to cut wasteful spending!
