Isla Vista's ongoing housing crisis has allowed property managers to exploit college students desperate for a place to live. Knowing that UCSB students have little to no other options, Isla Vista landlords have gotten away with charging unruly prices for subpar living conditions. Cliff erosion occurring dangerously close to homes and black mold growing unchecked in damp corners and behind walls have been putting the health and safety of residents at risk. Mandates must be put in place to hold landlords accountable for the conditions of their properties.
