The Issue

Please help save Lucklawhill, near St Andrews in Scotland from further quarrying.

The Save Lucklawhill Community Action Group wants to stop plans by Breedon Trading Ltd to significantly expand Balmullo Quarry.  The current quarry is due to close in 2025/26, but Breedon are now trying to extend the quarrying operation for another 20 years and to extract a further 3 million tonnes of aggregate which will almost double the size of the existing quarry. Our community, wildlife and beautiful walks on the hill are under threat.  This expansion will destroy rare heathland habitat and protected species and the blasting activity will disturb residents, affect the local hydrology and have physical impacts on houses nearest the site.  The hill is a local biodiversity hotspot and a haven for wildlife, including red squirrels. We must remember that once lost, these natural landscapes cannot be replaced, they are gone forever. We urge everyone who opposes quarry expansion at the expense of our natural environment and the people who enjoy it, to sign this petition today! Your signature can help save Lucklawhill for future generations.

The purpose of this petition is to demonstrate to Breedon the level of objection to their proposal.
